Canada's Prime Minister Steven Harper and his Conservative party have been extremely stressful at controlling what Canadian's hear and see in the media. The Media message to Canadians is about to become even more controlled and politically slanted with the announcement that Quebecor has applied to the CRTC for development of a new news network.
The application proposes a news network modelled on the Conserative Christian right-wing news channel on the highly successful Fox News in the United States. Fox news makes no appology for it's unabashedly Conserative Christian reporting and commentay
Kory Teneycke, Prime Minister Harper's former communications director in the PMO has been hired a vice president of development for the proposed network.
With his own Conservative Christian network to distribute the Conservative message should Canadians be concerned? Harper and his Cabinet do not and will not grant interviews to media organizations because they do not like the media or anyone else for that matter questioning their decisions. Canadians have always relied on the media to question government on their behalf and report the news in a fair and unbiased format.
Anyone who has ever watched Fox News or listened to Fox commentators like Rush Limbaugh know that the Cnserative Christian Right message takes presidence over fair and unbiased news reporting and fair and unbiased examination of government policy and the politicans who frame those policies.
It should deeply concern Canadians that the separation of church and state is constantly being assaulted by Prime Minister Harper and his Conservative Christian Followers...we shroud be terrified that our media is being systemically prevented by the Prime Ministers Office from reporting and commenting to Canadians the functions and decisions of the government that the Canadian people elected. If the Media cannot be the watchdog of the Canadian people then who can.
History has taught us time and time again that a government without a media watchdog is ripe for the abuse of power...when our politicians are not allowed to speak to Canadians without first winning the approval of the Prime Ministers Office I believe we have reached that point.
Why is the Prime Minister so afraid of what his Cabinet Ministers have to say...Why does the Prime Minister refuse to allow the Media to ask questions on the behalf of the Canadian people and Why does the Prime Minister want his own Conservative Christian News Network...YOU BETTER ASK THOSE QUESTIONS NOW...WHILE YOU STILL CAN!
